Radiation Exposure Screening and Education Program
Through a grant from the federal Health Resources and Services
Administration, IN PHOENIX Mountain Park Health Center is administering
a new program called the Radiation Exposure Screening and Education
Program (RESEP) to offer medical screening and educational services to
individuals exposed to nuclear radiation through uranium mining,
transport, processing, and the testing of nuclear weapons. Through grant
funding, MPHC is establishing a regional network of medical screening
sites in the following counties: Maricopa, Navajo, Gila, Apache,
Coconino and Yavapi. Program eligibility is determined through history
of residence in affected counties or through occupational history
relating to uranium mining.
Under the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act, persons exposed to
radiation through uranium mining, milling, or through weapons testing
are eligible for $150,000 in compensation from the federal government.
The screening program is used to evaluate those persons exposed to
radiation to determine whether they are eligible for compensation. Some
of those persons exposed also are eligible for additional compensation
under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Plan Act.
the same type program is offered at the:
