Hello, My name is Nancy Bailey, Smith, Brown.
I was born in '43 in Flagstaff, Az and moved to Kingman with my
parents, Mabel and Raymond Bailey, and sister Annette six months
later. Spent all of my school years and longer in Kingman. I, too
witnessed the mushroom shaped cloud along with our school mates.
When I was 14 I developed a thyroid condition as did many of my
other friends. I feel now it was because of the Iodine 131 released
into the air when the nuclear testing was done. I had never had any
condition or illness until after the testing was over.
In '63 I gave birth to a baby girl who died five hours after she was born.
She had many deformities: cleft palate, club foot, malformed arm and
her respiratory system hadn't developed properly. I had good
prenatal care and there was no reason for this in my opinion, except
for the testing.
I have had 3 miscarriages and finally lost one ovary and tube to cancer
after that. I have been plagued with liver and lung problems after the
exposure for the rest of my life. I am struggling now with my liver as
it is 3/4 damaged. I contracted Hep B from a blood donation in '72,
after having a post partem hemorrhage from my third child, but wasn't
diagnosed until '99, after many boughts with pneumonia and other infections
I couldn't fight off. Now I just pray and hope for the best.
I would like to find out where the blood came from that I had to
have in '72. After that I had my uterus removed. No one seemed to know
what happened to it to cause the hemorrhage. I think the testing did more
damage to all of us than we realize.
Well, there is my story. Thanks for listening.
Sincerely,
Nancy Brown
